Merit Badges

Scouting and Merit Badges

Earning Merit Badges is one important part of Scouting. Many badges can be earned by new Scout just joining the Troop, yet others require the Scout to be older or have already attained a certain rank before beginning the badge.

It is often preferable to work on rank advancement before getting too involved in too many merit badges. Mr. Green is at the Barn every Saturday from 1:30 to 3:00pm to assist all Scouts in attaining their next rank.

Troop 137 and Merit Badges

Due to the large size of Troop 137, we teach merit badge classes rather than have individual Scouts working one-on-one with a merit badge counselor. With over 100 boys, it would just not be feasible to work one-on-one with so many. Many Eagle required merit badges, many just fun merit badges, and several Merit Badge Universities are offered each year at the barn by Troop 137 Merit Badge Counselors. Watch the Troop email carefully for announcements of new merit badge classes forming. Many merit badge classes are open to all Scouts, some are restricted by Scout rank. For more information about merit badges to be offered at the barn or to volunteer to teach a merit badge, contact our Merit Badge Coordinator listed on the Contacts page.
